The Writers' Round (12A)

Introducing our second Singer Songwriters night at The ArtHouse, we welcome 4 Americana Singer Songwriters to each perform a set of original songs, and hear a bit about the story behind them

Roisin McNeill:

Our very own Roisin McNeill is a Singer/Songwriter based in North London and first became in the public eye as lead singer for Country/Americana band, Newton Country. She played multiple Under The Apple Tree sessions with Bob Harris, and played a live session at BBC Radio 2 on the Dermot O’Leary show. Roisin writes tender, Country-inspired songs, and draws inspiration from Iris DeMent, Jason Isbell and Lori McKenna.

Jonny Morgan:

Jonny Morgan is an indie Singer/Songwriter with an unashamed passion for ambient, emotive music - drawing inspiration from artists such as The War On Drugs, Ray LaMontagne, & David Ramirez.

Jonny’s transatlantic sound is unmistakably influenced by his love for country/roots music. He continues to portray his vulnerability wrapped up in his Americana-inflected folk songs. Currently based in North London, Jonny is spending the majority of his time recording a new project for summer 2022 - ‘Glass Half Empty’ with Grammy nominated engineer Jonas Westling and Matt Fury (Passenger, Lydia Evangeline). Live shows coming up this summer for Jonny include The Great Escape Festival as well as an official showcase at Americanafest In Nashville this September

Kate Ellis:

Kate Ellis is an Americana/Folk singer-songwriter. She was born In Louisiana and raised In New York but is now based In London.

Kate’s southern country-folk roots come from her father who was an important early musical influence – as a young man he once played guitar with Hank Williams on the famous Louisiana Hayride, where Elvis and Johnny Cash started out.

Kate uses melancholy Americana and Folk to conduct fearless soul-searching. Her emotional and seductive vocals take you into a world of private beauty, reflection and feelings. The music is intimate and evocative – you listen and want to be there.

Michele Stodart:

Michele Stodart is an award-winning solo artist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Best renowned as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of much-loved, double-platinum selling band, The Magic Numbers, who have released five critically acclaimed studio albums with top ten singles, she continues to play regularly and tour world-wide with them.

Michele has always pursued her own writing alongside her band, and after almost a decade of touring with The Magic Numbers, and becoming a mother, she took some time out to record and release an album of her own songs.

In between recording and touring, she has also been building a name for herself as musical director, curator and collaborator for a range of events, and has been invited to curate stages at a number of festivals. She regularly promotes nights at Camden’s legendary venue, Green Note, which she curates and hosts, inviting friends and special guests to perform and collaborate with her.

She has always especially championed women in music and has organised, directed and performed in a successful series of multi-artist shows celebrating International Women's Day annually.

Please note: The running time of the show is 140 minutes including a 20 minute interval.
