In times of rising fascism and needless war, artists turn to cinema as a weapon of self‑expression, community, and resistance. Ours is not the first generation to seek healing through film, but we hope it will be the last that must. This programme honours the L.A. Rebellion, the group of African‑American filmmakers who rejected Hollywood’s constraints during an era of uprising and instead built a cinematic language rooted in liberation and
community care.
We bring together two films, L.A. Rebellion: A Cinematic Movement (2025, 56m) and Don’t Be Long, Little Bird (2025, 23m), to illuminate the lineage between the original L.A.Rebellion artists and contemporary Palestinian filmmaker Reem Jubran, who continues that legacy today. Together, these works create a dialogue across generations, geographies, and liberation movements.
The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with director, Reem Jubran and guests.
