ROOTED OUT is a darkly comic two-part drama set over one increasingly volatile day during the 2024 UK riots. What begins as a seemingly ordinary neighbourly dispute over a tree gradually spirals into a devastating confrontation about race, class, identity and belonging in modern Britain.
Set largely within two adjoining suburban homes, the film unfolds almost in real time as two middle-class couples attempt to maintain civility while buried resentments, prejudices and ideological tensions slowly rise to the surface.
Combining the intimacy of a chamber piece with escalating psychological tension and uncomfortable humour, ROOTED OUT explores the fault lines beneath contemporary liberal Britain — where politeness, progressivism and tolerance are tested under pressure.
ROOTED OUT was officially selected for Raindance Film Festival 2026.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with writer and director, Freddie Hutton-Mills.
